Saturday morning, we will meet at 9:00 AM at the site of the Tulip
Rally starting point at Cascade Mall off I-5 in the NW corner of the
mall parking lot next to I-5.
Directions from North bound I-5: Take Exit 230, which is Highway
20 (W. Rio Vista Avenue South). Turn right onto Old Hiway 99 South (also
known as S. Burlington Blvd.) Turn Right again, going south on S.
Burlington Blvd to Cascade Mall Drive. Turn right again and head toward
I-5.
Drivers’ meeting will be at 9:15 and departure at 9:30.
First rest stop will be at Newhalem. (Nice facilities).
The U.S. Forest Service told me that Washington Pass closed last
Friday for construction and upgrades in preparation for the winter
snows. They said the next facilities would be at Raney Pass Picnic
Area--limited parking, not so great facilities, but work for an
emergency stop.
Just outside downtown Winthrop on Highway 20 is the Winthrop Park.
There is paved parking area where we can park and walk into downtown
Winthrop. We will leave the downtown area at 3:00 to get to Sun Mountain
Lodge and check by 4:00. It is a great MG road up to the lodge. A word
of caution from prior guests and Jennifer Orum, who took the Vancouver
MG/Jag Club over Highway 20 last weekend, there are many deer in the
area and on the road. SAFETY FIRST!!!
REMEMBER: Temperatures drop dramatically at night. Bring a warm coat
for evening and early morning.
Looking forward to an exciting and beautiful trip. Rumors are rampant
that some of you are bringing your cowboy boots and hats. Sounds like
several Kodak moments will be forthcoming.
See you Saturday morning!!
